WHAT
IS YOGA?
Yoga
means union, or to bring together. Its purpose is to integrate all
aspects of every individual - the body with the mind and the mind
with the soul - to help each one of us achieve our highest potential:
a happy, balanced, useful life; vibrant good health; a strong, supple
body and a clear and calm mind.
There
are many ways in which yoga can be practised. Most in the West begin
with physical postures (asana) and work with the breath (pranayama).
This kind of yoga is known as Hatha Yoga. Some well known forms
of Hatha Yoga are Astanga Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Bikram Yoga, Viniyoga
and Kundalini Yoga.
Astanga and Anusara Yoga, Sarah's main influences, are practices
of flowing, dynamic movements synchronised with the breath. Sarah
pays great attention to adapting postures to suit each student's
capabilities and to teaching good alignment in postures without
interrupting the flow of the practice.
