I
began practising yoga in 1996 and have experience of many forms
of hatha yoga including Astanga, Anusara, Viniyoga, Iyengar and
Sivananda yoga, but I particularly love the rhythmic and flowing
qualities of Astanga yoga and its emphasis on coordinating movement
and breath.
I
am keen to give students options of how to practise every asana
(posture), so that each may work to their individual capability
and I encourage students to practise yoga in a way that is always
easy on the mind and gentle on the body.
Core
strength (using and being aware of deep abdominal, back and pelvic
floor muscles) is important within any yoga practice and can bring
health benefits for each student: increasing strength and energy
levels, relieving back-pain and improving posture.
I
teach a flowing, rhythmical class, with a focus on the breath and
aim to help each student to reach their full potential physically
through gentle hands-on adjustments and by encouraging correct alignment.
Each class ends with some quiet time for relaxation, breathwork
or meditation.
Yoga
practice brings many health benefits, many of which I have experienced
myself: it can help to reduce stress levels, to improve physical
well-being and to tackle insomnia and other sleep-related problems.
It can also make us feel much happier in our own skin and this has
a positive impact on the way we live our lives.
"Yoga
balances the subtle energies in the body and the chakras, awakening
the innate potential of the inner self and ... releasing the physical,
mental, energetic, emotional and psychological blocks that limit
potential ... A sense of calm, balance and ease follows."
